My Bleeding Bag

Remember my bleeding problem? Well, I finished the bag and yes It still bleeds (just a little) so I didn't end up giving it away as a Christmas gift like I intended. I did order some Retayne so once that comes in I will try it on this and see if it will stop the bleeding.

The bag is based of Amy Butler's pattern 'Simple Leather-Handled Shoulder Bag' from her book In-Stitches. The bag was easy with a unique construction. (The way they do the liner is pretty cool)

Of course, I added my own little twist with this appliqued flower.

What I did for this applique was make a paper template of the flower shape and leaf and then used it to cut out layers of scrap fabric. Then I stacked my layers of fabric and roughly sewed/tacked the pieces that I wanted to stay layered together. Next I threw the pieces into a lingerie bag and wash and dried it several times. Finally, I sewed the layered pieces onto the bag and added a button for the center of the flower. It was fun and I love the way it turned out.

Would love to do this type of applique on a skirt, oh wouldn't that be fun and Anthro like?! Will have to try for a fun summer skirt!

So, so cute! I've been wanting to make a flower like that for a while now, maybe I'll give it a shot.

Great bag -- the little flower pieces almost look quilted -- it there batting between the layers of fabric? I hope you get your dye problems worked out! :)
